How I ardently wish the bulk of Christians would understand where our focus is to lie, as a peculiar people in Christ and under God.  Our priority is not to restore America to its former supposed glory; such a favorable national-condition is ever but the byproduct of our true focus, which must always be the Church—that is, the true Church, which is the truth-affirming people of God, not what this pagan world would recognize as its "global church".  John the Baptist, who was named by Christ as the greatest man born of women, second to Himself of course, did not speak out against the sinful, ignorant Caesar, and that pagan ruler’s sinful, ignorant, and heathenish nation, but rather spoke boldly against the ruler over 'God's people', to him whom exercised power over Israel, that deviant, religious-leader, Herod, who knew the laws and commandments of God; which corresponds to those leaders and elders who affirm Christ, but are to be rebuked for the heresy they speak and perform—such persons as the Pope, for example, as opposed to the United States’ president.

Paul, in recognizing the managerial limits of our God-given authority, told us in 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 - “For what have [we] to do with judging those also who are outside [the church]? Do we not judge those who are inside [the church]? But those who are outside [the church] God judges.”

God told us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 - “If My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.”  And are we not His people?  Indeed, those who truly love Christ most definitely are.

Again, we see how much power we have as God's people over the well-being of the nation in which we dwell, despite how wicked its own decrees are, here in Genesis 18:32 - “Then he [Abraham, a friend of God’s] said, ‘Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten [righteous people] should be found there [among the wicked of a sinful nation].’ And He said, ‘I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.’”  Repeatedly, households and nations were indirectly blessed in which the likes of Abraham, David, Jacob and Elijah sojourned, just as Egypt was with Joseph, for the sake of all the Israelites, and just as Babylon was, on account of Daniel’s faithfulness to God being used by God to indirectly affect that pagan leader finally implementing laws which brought praise to God for the period of time that it did.

If, as it is written in 1 John 5:19 - “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one,” (Also Job 9:24), then we are not to focus on the condition of that wicked nation bordering us in, with any direct intention to repair it by our own cunning, but rather to focus directly on the true nation to which we belong, and its eternal citizens, letting God repair that protective or persecuting earthly nation in which we temporarily find ourselves, so that His people might glorify Him in sharing the gospel to its lost citizens via our bold but gentle words and deeds.

1 Peter 4:17 - “For the time has come for judgement to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?”  Over and over, throughout the Bible, God sternly judges His people in priority over the wicked, whom He tells us are “reserved” for the Day of Judgment.  In the meantime the wicked are constantly being used by His purposes to strengthen and sanctify His people, sometimes in the form of discipline whenever we stand in need of correction.

Jesus warns us in Luke 6:46 - “But why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say?”  We must as a people, keep His commandments, keep the laws of our heavenly nation, just as we follow those of the earthly nations here below, wherever they do not conflict with our God-given mandates. What are they? Well, He goes to great lengths to spell them out for us redundantly all over His Word, as is enumerated below in a compilation of mostly New Testament commands, which are the very Spirit of the Old Testament, from which no jot or tittle shall ever be removed, but the whole of which Law Christ fulfilled in His perfect righteousness, and thus imputes to all who believe, that the Spirit of the Law might be manifested in all those who are His disciples. If, then, we forsake these New Testament commands, we forsake the very Spirit of them, and need not wonder at the ruinous state of whatever country we find ourselves temporal citizens of.

But, O, how the faithful of Esther's day had it right.  And did God not protect and deliver them from wicked Haman who, in plotting against them, nevertheless fairly accurately described them when speaking to king Ahasuerus, in saying: “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom"—sound's uncannily like present-day Christians, go figure—"their laws are different from all other people’s, and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain." - Esther 3:8.  Aside from the irony of it being most fitting for king Ahasuereus to "let them remain", just as it was preferrable for king Darius to keep Daniel over those who had plotted against that righteous man's life, who likewise did not keep all of the king's laws; and aside from this wicked man's obscurely exaggerated remark of God's people "not [keeping] the king's laws"—which might have suggested to the king's imagination that they were in conflict with ALL of his laws,—Haman otherwise described God's people as they were and as they ought always to be.  Let us now observe such laws as would make us "peculiar", as God's Own Word describes us, to "all other people":

Luke 10:27 - "So [Jesus] answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with ALL your heart, with ALL your soul, with ALL your strength, and with ALL your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”

Colossians 3:8-9 - “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another.”

Colossians 3:13 - “Bear with one another, forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”

Ephesians 6:1-2 – “‘Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother.’”

Proverbs 13:24 - “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”

Proverbs 23:13-14 - “Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from hell.”

Hebrews 12:6 - “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.”

Matthew 10:37 - “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of me.”

Luke 16:18 - “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.”

Ephesians 5:22-24 - “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.”

Ephesians 5:28 - “So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.”

Joshua 24:15 - “And if it seem evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”
